Rio Carnival 2025
Rio Carnival, one of Brazil’s most emblematic and anticipated parties, brings something new for 2025. The Grupo Especial parades at Marquês de Sapucaí will be held on three consecutive days. This change promises to bring more excitement, diversity, and opportunities to samba schools and spectators who attend the show.
Changes and Its Reasons
The decision to expand the parades to three days was taken by the Independent League of Samba Schools (LIESA) in conjunction with the City of Rio de Janeiro. Above all, the main reasons for this change are:
- Greater Visibility and Exposure: the extra parade days, will grant Special Group schools more media exposure time, allowing each to showcase their creativity and competence more prominently.
- Reducing Pressure on Schools: Increasing the number of days gives schools more time to prepare and improve their performance, reducing pressure and the risk of delays.
- A better experience for the Public: The public will have the opportunity to experience a more extensive carnival experience, with more attractions and a greater diversity of shows.

The format of the parades will be adjusted to accommodate the new three-day structure. Traditionally, Grupo Especial parades take place on Carnival Sunday and Monday. Eventually, with the change, Tuesday will also be included in the official calendar.
Sunday: The first day schools will open Carnival with energy and excitement.

Monday: The second day keeps up with rhythm, excitement, and performances that promise to be equally dazzling.

Economic and Cultural Impact
Making changes to the parades is also seen as a strategy to boost tourism and the local economy. Once there are more event days, a significant increase in the number of tourists is expected, which will bring benefits to hotels, restaurants, and other commercial sectors.
Culturally, the change reinforces the importance of Rio Carnival as a globally recognized event, attracting not only Brazilians but also visitors from all over the world who want to experience the magic of samba and Rio culture.
Expectations for Rio Carnival 2025
